Delivery status

Which recipients a message you sent reached, and a warning in the list when one did not.

Details

  • A message you sent that bounced, was reported as spam, was held back or failed carries a red warning beside it in the Inbox and Sent lists and in its header. Hover it to read how many recipients it affected and the reason the receiving server gave.
  • Every message you send has an Activity tab with its timeline, recipient by recipient: accepted, queued or scheduled, sent, delivered, delayed, bounced, reported as spam, held back or not sent. Delivered means the receiving server accepted it. Whether it then landed in an inbox or a spam folder is never reported back to any sender.
  • A bounce that arrives as an email is filed into the conversation it belongs to and labelled Bounced, and is:bounced finds them all. A hard bounce or a spam report also puts the address on Blocked addresses, so the next message to it is held back rather than sent.
  • The list only ever shows a problem: there is no Delivered mark there, which is what the Activity tab is for. It covers mail sent through OpenEmail, so mail you imported has none.
  • The same record is on the REST API as GET /emails/{id} and GET /emails/{id}/events, on the SDK, the command line and the MCP server, and in the email.delivered, email.delivery_delayed, email.bounced, email.complained, email.suppressed and email.failed webhooks.
