OpenEmail is a mail client and a mail host, built on the argument that every problem people have with email belongs in one product, and that the product should be one you can read, run and walk away from.
Email is not one problem
Ask anyone what is wrong with their inbox and you get a list rather than a complaint. The address that leaked to a data broker. The newsletter that will not let go. The invoice in a language they do not read. The message from a domain one character off their bank’s. The four addresses that need four apps to read.
Every one of those has a product behind it, and they are all somebody else’s. That is the state of things: several subscriptions, several privacy policies, and several companies holding a copy of your mail between them.
We do not think that is a list of separate problems. We think it is one product nobody has finished building.

One product, not a shelf
Everything goes into the mail client rather than beside it. Addresses on your own domain, phishing and authentication checks, filters, translation, scheduling, an assistant that can act on a thread. One place, one price, one privacy policy to read.
Everything it doesPrivacy first, and on by default
Tracking pixels are stripped from every message before it reaches you. Nothing is fetched from a sender’s machine unless you allow it. Nothing about your mail is sold, and nothing is sold against it. None of it is a setting you have to find and turn on.
Privacy & ownershipFreedom is being able to leave
Mail arrives on a domain you own, so moving is a DNS change rather than a migration. Nothing is held back for a higher tier, and the hosted service runs every feature there is. Pricing is per workspace and never per seat, so adding somebody is not a decision you have to weigh.

The end of the argument is that every email is worth running on something its owner controls. That is a long way from where we are today, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise, which is why the features that are not here yet are the ones that carry a label. There are 56 you can use now and 6 still to come; only the second group is marked, and each of them says what is missing rather than what is planned.
Ahead of us: agents that triage a thread before you open the tab, addresses that expire on a date you set, and third-party OAuth clients that can ask for part of a mailbox rather than all of it. The REST API is no longer on this list; it is on. The typed SDK is written and tested against it, and what is left there is publishing the package. Outbound webhooks are off it too. Nor is encryption between OpenEmail mailboxes: the keys are made in your browser, the mail is sealed before it leaves the tab, and the private half is never ours to hand over.
We ship, we write down exactly what shipped, and we keep going until an inbox on your own domain is the ordinary choice rather than the considered one.
