Your addresses in any mail app
Your mailbox, in the app you already use.

Add your OpenEmail addresses to Apple Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird or the Gmail app. Folders, read state and stars stay the same everywhere, and what you send still goes out through OpenEmail.

In short

What does a mail app need?

A server to read from, a server to send through and a password. Every address that keeps its mail in OpenEmail has all three: IMAP or POP3 for reading, SMTP for sending, and app passwords made for that one address.

How it works

A password for each app

Create an app password on the address’s Mail apps tab and paste it into the app with the settings shown beside it. It is 16 letters, shown once, and opens that one address only.

The same mailbox everywhere

Your folders and labels appear as folders. Read or star a message in the app and OpenEmail shows the same, and the other way round. What you send from the app lands in Sent.

Set it up for someone else

Email a one-time setup link instead of passing a password around. It works once within three days and shows a new app password, the settings and, on Apple devices, a profile that adds the account in one step.

Hand out passwords from code

Create, list and revoke app passwords and send setup links from the API, the SDKs or the CLI.

import { openemail } from '@openemail/sdk' const { password, servers } = await openemail.domains.createAppPassword(domainId, addressId, {  name: 'iPhone',}) console.log(servers.imap.host, servers.smtp.port, password) await openemail.domains.sendMailAppSetup(domainId, addressId, { recipient: '[email protected]' })

What you get

In the product today

Encrypted on every port

IMAP, SMTP and POP3 use SSL/TLS from the first byte.

One address per password

A password opens one address and nothing else.

Revoke any time

Its app is signed out within about five minutes.

Same rules as the web

Mail from the app gets the same sending checks and limits.

Good practice

Getting the most out of it

  1. 01

    One password per device

Name each one after its device, so revoking one leaves the others working.

  2. 02

    Choose IMAP over POP3

IMAP keeps folders and read state in step. POP3 only downloads the inbox.

  3. 03

Send a link, not a password

A setup link reaches the right person and works only once.

Works well with

A password for one address

Let somebody sign in as one address, such as someone covering support@, with a password you set, and reach nothing else.

A free personal address

Every account comes with [email protected], an address that sends and receives, kept apart from your workspaces.

Forward an address elsewhere

Point any address, or everything a domain accepts, at an outside mailbox instead of this one.

Your domain,
your mail.

Point a domain at OpenEmail and read it in a mailbox built around it. The free plan covers one domain.
