A password for one address
One address, and nothing else.

Set a password on an address, and whoever has it signs in as that address at the usual sign-in page. They read and send its mail, and reach nothing else.

In short

What is a password for one address?

Sharing a mailbox password usually opens everything behind it. A password for one address is narrower: whoever holds it signs in as that address, such as support@, and reaches nothing else.

How it works

Set from the Access tab

Open the address under Settings → Addresses, go to its Access tab and choose Set a password. Generate makes a strong one and shows it once, and setting it asks for your verification code.

Its mail, and nothing more

They read and send the address’s mail and work with its drafts, files, labels, contacts and calendar, and the rest of the workspace stays out of reach.

Change it, or end it

Changing the password signs them out everywhere and clears their two-factor, and Remove password ends the sign-in at once. Switching the address off pauses the sign-in, and switching it back on brings it back.

What you get

In the product today

The usual sign-in page

They sign in where everyone else does, with the address and the password.

Two-factor applies to them

A workspace that requires two-factor requires it of them too.

From code as well

The REST API, the SDK and the command line read, set and remove one.

Good practice

Getting the most out of it

  1. 01

    Copy it before you save

Generate makes a strong password and shows it once, so copy it before you save.

  2. 02

End it when the cover ends

Remove password ends the sign-in at once, so take it away as soon as the cover is over.

  3. 03

    Invite people who have accounts

If the address is already the email of another OpenEmail account, invite that account from Team.
