Open the Notes tab on a conversation and write what you need to remember. It stays with the thread, and it stays yours.
In short
What is a note on an email thread?
Mail records what was said, not what you made of it. A thread note keeps the rest, like the price you were quoted or the date you promised, beside the conversation it belongs to.
How it works
Pinned notes sit on top
Pin the one you need first and it moves above the rest. Drag cards to reorder them within each group.
A colour down the edge
Seven colours and a plain one, drawn as a stripe on the left of the card. Pick it as you write, or change it later.
Yours on a shared address
A note is held against the account that wrote it. Two people working the same address open the same thread and see only their own.

Save from the keyboard
Ctrl or Cmd with Enter saves a new note or an edit.

If everything is pinned, the top of the panel stops telling you anything.
