Move a domain between workspaces
The domain goes, and its mail goes with it.
Pick another business workspace you own and confirm with your verification code. The domain moves with its addresses and their mail, and new mail lands there straight away.
In short
What does moving a domain do?
It takes a domain, its addresses and all their mail out of one of your workspaces and into another, so the history goes where the domain goes. What belongs to the workspace itself, such as its rules and members, stays where it was.
How it works
A workspace, then your code
Move sits in the Workspace section of the domain’s Settings tab, under Settings → Domains. Pick another business workspace you own, confirm with your verification code, and new mail for the domain lands there straight away.
What moves, and what stays
The addresses go with their settings, conversations, drafts, files, sent history and tracking, broadcasts and calendar events. Rules, contacts, audiences, templates, API keys, webhooks and members stay where they were.
Older mail follows in the background
Older mail moves in the background while OpenEmail is open, and the move picks up where it left off when you come back.
What you get
In the product today
Encryption keys and sign-ins go too
Encryption keys, subscriptions and password sign-ins move with the addresses.
The old workspace is told
The workspace the domain left gets a domain.deleted webhook saying the domain moved.
Access follows membership
Access moves with the domain: after the move, the addresses belong to the other workspace’s members.
Good practice
Getting the most out of it
- 01
Connect DNS on the other side
Connect the other workspace to the same DNS provider account first, and the connection moves with the domain.
- 02
Invite people before you move
Members stay behind, so invite whoever needs the addresses into the other workspace first.
- 03
Set up what stays behind
Rules, contacts, audiences, templates, API keys and webhooks stay with the old workspace, so set up the ones you need in the new one.
