# Is this address worth sending to?

Type an email address and see whether it is written correctly, whether its domain takes mail, and whether it is a throwaway or shared mailbox, before your first message bounces.

## What the check looks at

- **Syntax**
A name, one @ and a domain after it. A missing dot, a space or two @ signs is where most bad addresses stop.
- **MX**
The DNS record that names the servers taking mail for a domain. With no MX and no fallback, nothing can be delivered, however correct the address looks.
- **Throwaway**
Mailboxes made to last minutes, used to get past a sign-up form. Mail to them is read once or never, and the address is gone by your second message.
- **Shared**
Addresses such as info@, sales@ or support@ belong to a team, not a person. They are more likely to report a newsletter as spam.

Nothing is stored. The check reads public DNS when you press the button, and it never sends mail to the address or connects to its mailbox.
