Summaries are the one piece that runs on arrival today. Triage, labelling and first-pass replies are planned to follow, per thread, and a drafted reply would never send itself.

## What is an AI inbox agent?

An inbox agent reads mail as it arrives and acts on it: sorting, labelling, summarising or drafting a reply. Where a filter follows your rules, an agent decides from what the message says.

How it works

## Summaries already run on arrival

A thread is summarised as it lands, and again when a reply joins it. The short version sits at the top of the thread.

## Per thread, not on a timer

The plan is for triage and labelling to run on each thread as it arrives, not in a scheduled sweep.

## A drafted reply would stay a draft

A first-pass reply would be saved as a draft and never sent for you. Every other action would stay reviewable and reversible.

Rewritten on reply

A new message rewrites the summary, starting from the one before.

Encrypted mail left alone

An encrypted message is never read for a summary, and the pane says so.

Prompts you can rewrite

Both thread-summary prompts can be read and rewritten on the Prompts screen.

## Getting the most out of it

   Rules for certainties
   
   A sort you can state exactly, like one sender to one label, belongs in a rule that runs on arrival.

   Tune the summary
   
   If summaries miss what matters to you, rewrite Summarize thread and Re-summarize thread.

   Ask for one-offs
   
   Press ⌘0 and have the assistant label or draft a reply for the threads you name.
