In short

## Where do email attachments live?

An attachment is a file carried inside an email, encoded next to the text. The mailbox keeps it with that message, so finding a file usually means finding the email first.

How it works

## Search the names, filter the type

Type part of a filename and the list narrows. Pick a type to cut it further.

## What you sent counts too

A file you sent sits beside the ones that came in, with the address it left from and a link to its message.

## Deleting takes the bytes

Only the owner can delete a file. The stored copy goes for everyone in the workspace, and the total drops with it.

## What each type filter matches

Each filter matches the start of a file's content type, not its extension.

## Getting the most out of it

   Name it before you send
   
   A file you send keeps its name here, so a clear one is easier to find.

   Narrow by type first
   
   Pick PDFs or images first, then a few letters of the name will do.

   Clear the heavy ones
   
   Filter to video to see what takes the room, and delete only what you keep elsewhere.

Attachments

Pick them with the paperclip or paste them in. A pasted image lands in the body rather than the file list, and a file dragged onto the composer is not attached at all. On an OpenEmail mailbox incoming files sit in object storage, one object each, and opening a thread pulls every one of them.

Download links for the files you send on a subdomain you choose, such as files.yourdomain.com, instead of the OpenEmail address.
