## What is an email draft?

A draft is a message you have begun and not sent, kept so a closed laptop does not cost you the text. Mailboxes differ in when that copy is written and how much of it comes back.

How it works

## Three seconds after you stop

The timer restarts on every keystroke, so the save lands on a pause. A recipient, a subject or a line of body is enough to start it.

## Reopened the way you left it

Recipients, subject, body and the From address come back. If this workspace can no longer send as that address, the composer picks the one this workspace last sent from.

## Attachments are the one gap

A draft keeps each file's name, type and size but not the file, so a reopened draft comes back without them. Attach them again before you send.

Open the composer and close it again, and nothing is written.

Hover a row in Drafts and its bin button deletes it.

## Getting the most out of it

   Files are not kept in a draft, so add them just before you send.

   A draft saved without one is listed as (no subject), which is hard to pick out later.

   If the composer says drafts are not saving, send now or copy the text somewhere safe.

Pick them with the paperclip or paste them in. A pasted image lands in the body rather than the file list, and a file dragged onto the composer is not attached at all. On an OpenEmail mailbox incoming files sit in object storage, one object each, and opening a thread pulls every one of them.

A window to change your mind, and the composer comes back exactly as it was.
