# Search in plain language A sentence in, a query out.

Press ⌘K, describe what you want and press Enter. A model writes it in the mailbox's search syntax, and that query is what runs.

In short

## What is natural language email search?

Mailbox search usually takes keywords plus operators, such as a sender or a date. Natural language search puts a model in front: you describe what you want, and it writes the query.

How it works

## Type a sentence, press Enter

Enter goes to the model only when nothing you typed matches a command. Archive on its own opens the folder.

## You see the query, not your words

Reopen ⌘K: the chips under Active Filters are what the model wrote. Remove one with its × and the results follow.

## Only what the syntax can say

No operator reads an amount, so that part of “invoices over £200” is skipped. Results come back wider rather than empty.

## The syntax it writes in

Operators the model can use, alongside plain words and OR.

from: sender to: recipients cc: same as to: subject: subject only body: message text label: a label in: folder or label is: unread, starred, snoozed has: attachment kind filename: attachment name after: on or after a date before: before a date newer\_than: within the last N days older\_than: over N days old

## Getting the most out of it

   Name the sender
   
   A company name is enough: from:stripe matches the sender's name and address.

   Say when
   
   Mention a period like last month: the model knows today's date and works out the range.

   Trim, do not retype
   
   Remove a wrong part with its chip's × instead of asking again.
