# Forward an address elsewhere

Point any address, or everything a domain accepts, at an outside mailbox instead of this one.

## Details

- Each address routes either to your OpenEmail mailbox or to an external address, and the domain itself has a default for everything no address claims. An address that names a destination overrides it.
- A new destination has to confirm itself first. We send the owner of that mailbox a link, and forwarding starts when they click it. The link is good for a week and is spent the first time it is used; an unanswered ask can be repeated once an hour, and a destination that has been withdrawn is never asked again. A grant covers one workspace forwarding from one domain, so a destination that agreed for one domain has not agreed for the next one you add, and it can be withdrawn from the domain screen at any time, and the next message is the one that stops. Until it is confirmed, the address falls back to whatever it would have done anyway: the domain’s own forward if one is confirmed, and your mailbox if not.
- Removing a forward returns the address to the mailbox immediately.
